The U.S. Postal Service issued new stamp booklets to honor the bravery and loyalty of military working dogs. The dog feature the four breeds most commonly used in the Armed Forces: German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd and Labrador Retriever. Set on backgrounds of red, white, blue and gold to represent the American flag and patriotism, the stamps are sure to be a favorite for veterans and their supporters and dog lovers alike. The pictures are stylized digital illustrations of the breeds, and each block of four stamps are in a new booklet of 20 stamps. The white portion of the background features a detail of a white star, with a star set in the center of each block.

Prior to this, the Unites States War Dog Association had been petitioning for a “Forever” stamp for military working dogs for well over a decade, but the closest the United State’s Postal Service had come to fulfilling this request was a military tracking dog booklet in 2012.

The U.S. has made the most extensive use of dogs in warfare. These dogs have been used to detect bombs or drugs and sniff out enemies. They are fearless in the face of incoming bullets and danger, and their prey drive ensures they are always ready to be on the go – ready for action at a moment’s notice.
